The Fisher Foundation exemplifies an important, but often unrecognized, aspect of the world of philanthropy - the family foundation. The Fisher Foundation was created by the generosity of Stanley Fisher, a leading citizen of the Hartford area.
During his lifetime, Mr. Fisher distinguished himself as a lawyer, a manufacturer, and a developer of industrial parks. His dedication to improving the environment in which people live, work and play is notable by the high quality parks which survive him in Avon, Farmington, Meriden, Wallingford and Cheshire. He pioneered the concept of building factories in peaceful parkland settings with recreational facilities for the workers, and affordable homes for workers close to their place of work. He also donated prime farmland and a lake to the community as a recreational venue for people of all walks of life.
Mr. Fisher was an exceptional philanthropist, who contributed his time and financial resources to many local charities, and was one of the founders of the Endowment Foundation of the Hartford Jewish Federation.
The Fisher Foundation proudly continues the philanthropic tradition, of giving back to the community, established for the family by Stanley Fisher. Beneficiaries have included a broad range of arts, social service, health, and educational non-profit organizations in the Greater Hartford area.
